Newbery Honor
About a couple that is very lonely. Then the husband sees millions of cats. He brought all of them home and the couple runs away in fear. They decided to take the scrawny, little cat that was left after the huge cat fight.
It was amazing because it was about millions of cats.

Millions of Cats by Wanda Gag
Newbery Honor
The author made this book poetry. It was a great book. All the cats ate each other. But they didn't eat one. The old lady and man kept that cat.
It was amazing because it was like poetry.

Show Way by Jacqueline Woodson
Newbery Honor
This is a story about how, through time, slavery was happening. How children would sew a path to freedom. They called the quilts "show way" quilts. It is amazing.
It was a great book about slavery.

The Bears on Hemlock Mountain by Alice Dalgllesn
Newbery Honor
The book is about a little boy that goes over a mountain to get a big pot for his mother. When all of the sudden he falls asleep at his aunt;s after he finished eating a plate of cookies. When he wakes, he dashes out the door forgetting the pot. Later he returns and gets the pot but on the way he runs into some bears and he hides under the big pot until his dad comes.
I think it is a wonderful adventure story about a boy that runs into trouble and then makes it home safe and sound.

Annie and the Old One by Miska Miles
Newbery Honor
Annie was a young girl and she was learning how to weave. Her grandmother, the old one, said once the blanket was done she would die. Annie tries to stop her mother from weaving, but then she helps.
Annie was the little girl and her grandmother was called "the old one" so that is how the book got its title.

Dear Mr. Henshaw by Beverly Cleary
Newbery Medal
Leigh Botts starts writing letters to his favorite author. He writes what he feels and what happens to him. Mr. Henshaw is not very nice, though.
This book is titled "Dear Mr. Henshaw" because each letter Leigh writes begins with, Dear Mr. Henshaw.

Millions of Cats by Wanda Gag
Newbery Honor
Millions of cats is about an elderly woman and man and the lady asked for a cat. So the man said he would get one. He came to a hill with millions of cats. All of them came with the man and he took them all home. The woman was surprised with how many cats there were. They went inside and came back out and the cats were gone. And they kept the one kitten hiding in the bushes.
I loved the book partly because I love cats but I think it was sweet because he went so far just to get a cat.

Doctor DeSoto by William Steig
Doctor DeSoto is a book about a dentist mouse. When he meets a fox that needs help. His business doesn't help animals that could eat him. But his wife (his assistant) lets him in. The fox tried to eat him and his wife. But in the end he glued the fox's mouth shut.
I think it was a wonderful book because it's moral was no mater how rude someone treats you, you should always treat them with respect.

Caddie Woodlawn by Carol Ryrie Brink
1935 Newbery Medal
At age 11, Caddie Woodlawn is the despair of her mother and the pride of her father: a clock-fixing tomboy running wild in the woods of Wisconsin. In 1864, this is a bit much for her Boston-bred mother to bear, but Caddie and her brothers are happy with the status quo. Written in 1935 about Carol Ryrie Brink's grandmother's childhood, the adventures of Caddie and her brothers are still exciting over 60 years later. With each chapter comes another ever-more exciting adventure: a midnight gallop on her horse across a frozen river to warn her American Indian friends of the white men's plan to attack; a prairie fire approaching the school house; and a letter from England that may change the family's life forever. This Newbery Medal-winning book bursts at the seams with Caddie's irrepressible spirit. In spite of her mother's misgivings, Caddie is a perfect role model for any girl--or boy, for that matter. She's big-hearted, she's brave, and she's mechanically inclined!
