Sign of the Beaver by Elizabeth George Speare

1984 Newbery Honor

There is a boy whose dad leaves to get the rest of the family. After a while he met a boy, Attean. Matt had to teach Attean to read white man signs. At the end Attean has to go hunt moose with the rest of the Indians.

I think that this book taught me to be kind to others even if they have different colored skin.

4 stars = It was a great book and I recommend it to others.

1984 Newbery Honor

It is about a boy who is 12 years old and his name is Matt. They lived in Maine and his father had to go to Vusha to get the rest of the family so Matt is all alone for 6 to 8 weeks until Native Americans save him. Now Matt is learning to hunt from one of them. Now Matt teaches him to read. Then after many weeks, his family comes back with the baby.

I thought it was ok but not the best book ever, but it was good.

3 stars = It was a good book.

Matt was building a cabin with his father. Later on he was attacked by bees and jumped in the pond. He was saved by Indians. The leader said, "White man teach grandson how to read." He followed instructions. Few weeks later, Attean was telling Matt what happened to his family.

I think this book was awesome because of how everybody became friends.

4 stars = It was a great book and I recommend it to others.
