It is about a girl named Anna, a boy named Caleb, and their Papa who all live in the prairie. Papa sends an advertisement to the newspaper about needing a new wife (theirs died when Caleb was born). A woman named Sarah answers his ad, and tells them a little bit about herself. Anna, Caleb, Papa, and Sarah write back and forth to each other. Soon she decides to come and live with them. She brings her cat, Seal (she lived by the sea) and has fun with everyone. Soon she decides to stay...forever.
