The Sign of the Beaver by Elizabeth George Speare

1984 Newbery Honor

It was about a boy and his father. The father had to leave the son to get his wife and new baby girl. The son was left behind in his new cabin. Then he meets two Indians that help him. Since the Indians have helped the boy so much, the boy teaches one of them how to read.

I thought it was a very, very good book, because of the vents that had happened in the story.
