The book Sign of the Beaver is a very well written book. Matt was a boy who was left alone in the wilderness, while his father goes to get the rest of the family. Later, Matt meets an Indian named Attean. Attean's grandfather wanted Attean to learn how to read. After that Matt lost hope that his father is coming so he thinks about going with Attean, but he stays, and his father came.

I think it was a well written book, but I think the author needs to keep the reader wanting to read more.

1984 Newbery Honor

The book was about a boy named Matt that had gotten left behind to care for their log cabin while his dad went back to Quincy to get the rest of the family. Plus while he was taking care of the cabin he met an Indian boy named Attean and over long weeks they became more than friends, they became like brothers!!! And at the end Attean had to move so he asked Matt to come with him but Matt refused, also his family came back about two weeks later but sadly there newborn died while traveling.

I thought it was a very good book that teaches people about how to make good decisions, and it shows how two really different people can become so close.

4 stars = It was a great book and I recommend it to others.

The book is about a boy -- Matt, who is waiting for his dad to come back with the rest of his family. He ends up meeting Indians and making a deal with them -- he would teach Attean -- an Indian boy, because Sakins -- the king of the tribe, had given him supplies. They both start teaching each other things when he starts reading. When his family comes he has things ready for them.

It was entertaining and adventurous.

Matt's father went to go get his wife and daughter to their new property. He left Matt at home by himself. Around the 4th day, a stranger came and stole Matt's father's prized rifle. Then he meets Saknis and so starts his life teaching Attean (the brother of Saknis) to read. But, Attean mostly teaches Matt how to survive in the wilderness alone.

1984 Newbery Honor

A boy named Matt finished building their new log cabin and his father had to travel in the wilderness to get the rest of the family. A person named Ben took advantage of Matt and Ben stole a lot of the cabin's belongings. So Matt tried to climb to a beehive to get honey for food and the bees were mad. Matt fell into the water to get away from the bees and Indians saved his life. Matt and an Indian named Attean had to both get along with each other.

My opinion about the book was that I thought that the author was creative and I thought that a white many who has to get along with an Indian was interesting. I also thought that it had good vocabulary.

3 stars = It was a good book.
