Miss HIckory by Carolyn Sherwin Bailey

This book is about a girl that has a head that is a hickory nut. A sparrow is her friend. She lives on a window seal.

It is given the title "Miss Hickory" because the main characters head is a hickory nut and her name is Miss Hickory.

Dear Mr. Henshaw by Beverly Cleary

There is a boy named Leigh Botts. His mom and dad had a divorce and moved and it was a weird feeling for Leigh. He has to go to a new school and live in a different home. When he has an assignment to do he has to write to an author. He picked Mr. Henshaw. He got mad when he had to answer Mr. Henshaw's questions. That is why he has an attitude.

It is named this because he is writing to a famous writer. And he writes a bunch to Mr. Henshaw.

There was an old man and an old woman. The woman wanted a cat. So the man went out to get one, but he found millions of them. He brought them all back and the old woman said she only wanted one. So the cats all fought over who was the prettiest. They all ate each other and they were gone. The old man and old woman came out of their house and there was only one cat. They decided to keep it and soon made it plump and pretty.

It was given that title because there were millions of cats in it.

Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Patterson

A new girl comes to school and Jess and Leslie become friends. Then they make an imaginary world. Then one day a tragedy happens. Jess decides to get past his loss by building a bridge for Leslie. Then he makes his little sister Princess of Terabithia.

It explains how they swing across the rope into Terabithia. Then at the end he actually builds a bridge to Terabithia, which gives the book its name.

Charlotte's Web by E. B. White

Newbery Honor

Fern raises a pig named Wilbur. Then he gets too big and they have to give him to some of their family. While the pig is there he meets a spider and they talk and become friends. Everyday Fern would come and listen to them. Then a bad thing happens. But in the end, the pig makes some new friends.

It was about a spider and her web so I think that's why it's called "Charlotte's Web."

This book is about a boy named Leigh who's parents get divorced. Then he and his mom move and Leigh goes to a new school and gets an assignment to write to an author. So Leigh chooses Boyd Henshaw. Then someone keeps stealing the good food out of Leigh's lunch box. Finally his dad gets to come back to see Leigh.

It is named this because Leigh is writing to Mr. Henshaw half of the time.

Princess Academy by Shannon Hale

A girl named Miri and all the other girls in her village are sent to an academy to learn how to be princesses. They're learning how to be a princess because they are going to have a ball and the prince is going to meet all of them. Then he's going to choose who he wants to marry.

It is named "Princess Academy" because all the girls had to go to an academy to become princesses.

Doctor DeSoto by William Steig

Newbery Honor

Doctor DeSoto was a dentist. He would fix everyone's teeth. He could do pigs, donkeys, cows and then one day a fox was walking by and needed help but Doctor DeSoto and his wife were mice. But after the fox begged and cried he let the fox in. After fixing the foxes teeth, Doctor DeSoto put glue on his teeth so he couldn't eat them.

This book is titled "Doctor DeSoto" because this book's main character had that name.
