My Father's Dragon by Ruth Stiles Gannett

1949 Newbery Honor

My Father's Dragon is about a guy called "my father" who goes to find a dragon to fly. He crosses animals on the way such as a rhino who wants his horn to be white so "my father" gives him toothpaste and a tooth brush. When he came to a lion, he tied his mane up in pigtails. In the end, he gets the dragon and rides him away.

It's kind of a repeat of different animals. It's too dull, too.

1929 Newbery Honor

Once there was a couple who lived in a small home surrounded by flowers. The old woman wanted a cat so the old man went out to fetch one. He came back with gazillions of cats and so the woman asked all the cats "who was the prettiest" and all the cats started fighting. When they were all gone (except for the shaggiest one) they took him and cared for him.
