Sarah, Plain and Tall -- comments by Ashlyn B., 6th grade, 2012-2013

It is about a family who lives on a farm.  They seemed like a big family but it wasn't.  Their family has a production every day because they go outside and plan vegetables and do that for the whole day.

I think it is given this title because her name is Sarah.

Show Way - comments by Charley B., 4th grade, 2012-2013

This is about a girl named Sonnie.  She has to go away from her parents.  She has babies and a husband.  Then her babies get a husband and have babies and that goes on until the girl that is writing the book grows up.

It is titled this because I think Show Way means the first person showed the way to their daughters and it went on.  I think that's why.

Doctor DeSoto -- comments by Allyson L., 5th grade, 2012-2013

Doctor DeSoto was a doctor who did every kind of animal.  Until one day a fox came (foxes were not allowed).  The doctor decided to help him anyway.  The fox's tooth was fixed (he got a gold tooth to replace the old one).  The wolf wanted to eat the doctor but he put paste on the fox and they lived happily ever after.

I think the title was given its name because there was a doctor and that was his name.

Lily's Crossing -- comments by Claire T., 5th grade, 2012-2013

Every summer this girl named Lily would go to Rockaway for vacation.  That summer her father had to go to fight in war.  Lily was sad, but she got happy when she made a friend named Albert.  They told each other secrets and lies.  They also tell each other about the family and have a sad and fun summer.

I think it was given this title because of the boats that crossed from country to country and Lily watching them as they go by.

Holes -- comments by by Carson C., 6th grade, 2012-2013

Od day a boy named Stanley Yelnats is sent to a "camp" (if you can really call it that, it was called Camp Green Lake).  It is there he digs holes 5 feet long and 5 feet in diameter and meets a kid named Zero, and together they unravel a secret and become rich.  (During).  Kate Barlow, a school teacher, falls in love with a negro man.  But some other man loves her.  And when she is caught kissing the negro man some one sees it and spreads the news.  Later the other man burns down the schoolhouse.  Kate then becomes Kissin Kate Barlow and kisses every man she kills.

I think it was given its title because they did lots of holes.

Sam Gribley runs away from home into the wilderness.  During this he gets a pet falcon named Frightful, makes new friends, and lives off the land for about a year.  In the end, his family comes and ruins it by building a house.  But it is a good ending.

It is named this because Sam calls it his side of the mountain.
