1986 Newbery Honor

Behind the scenes of Micheal's Aunt Dew's timeline. He listens to her and her fragile voice carry on in a soft, tender voice. But before she tells Micheal, his mom wants to throw the box away. But if she does, Aunt Dew says she will be gone forever without her box. She did not want to lose her only memories of her life.

2 stars - It was ok.

The Hundred Penny Box by Sharon Bell Mathis

1986 Newbery Honor

The story starts when the mom was going to burn the hundred penny box in the furnace but the little boy wouldn't let her. The aunt learns that the mom is trying to burn her penny box. Then she started crying because the mom started to force her to go to sleep. The boy hid the box and then the mom tried to find it but couldn't.

I thought it was ok but it needs a better ending.

2 stars - It was ok.

The Hundred Penny Box by Sharon Bell Mathis

1986 Newbery Honor

The mom wanted to go to a furnace to burn the box then get a new one. Michael needed to hide the box so it wouldn't be taken away. She was 100 years old and had 1 penny for each year in her life. In the end, the story never tells you about what happened with the box.

I think it needs a better ending but otherwise it was 4 stars.

4 stars - It was a great book and I recommend it to others.

There was a boy who had an aunt who was 100 years old. She had a box that the boy's mom wanted to burn because she thinks she does not need it. At the end, it does not tell you what happened to the box.

It was great and does not need to be changed.

3 stars - It was a good book.

A family's aunt is 100 years old and she has 100 pennies for every year she has lived. She keeps it in a very special box that she loves but the kid's mom hates the box and wants to burn it in the furnace. The kids try to save the box but in the end, the book cuts off so you don't know what happens to the box.

I thought it was great but I didn't like how the book cut off.

4 stars - It was a great book and I recommend it to others.

Aunt Dew was 100 years old. She had a box filled with pennies (one for each year of her life). The mom of Michel is trying to take the box and throw it in the furnace. Michel tries to stop her.

It was not the best book, but it was still good.

3 stars - It was a good book.
