This book is about a little girl and she is being taught how to weave. As she is being taught to weave and she is told that after she learns to weave her grandmother is going to die and she is very sad.
It is given this title because it has an old time feeling and 1 Texan feeling and it takes me back in time.

Show Way / comments by Sarah S.
A girl and her great grandma were slaves and the whole generation knew how to sew. And they sewed stars, moons, and roads on their quilts. The slaves would follow the symbols and they would become free. The whole family would tell stories to encourage young kids that they would be free someday.
It is given this title because slaves show the way by making secret signs on quilts that would lead them to freedom.

Turtle in Paradise / comments by Claire T.
Turtle went to Key West while her mom was working for a man as a house keeper. Turtle stayed with her aunt and her cousins. She had lots of adventures with her cousins and the people she meets throughout the book. Turtle has a cat named Smokey that she brings with her, but when her aunt tells her to get rid of her she gave Smokey to her grandma, Nanna Philly. Her mom comes back to get her after her mom got married to this guy named Archie.
I think it was named this because she spends time on an insland in Key West, Florida.

Show Way / comments by Bennett F.
A girl named Soonie loves to sew but she's a slave. So she sews directions to freedom. These quilt instructions are passed down through her family until segregation is over.
I enjoyed it because it talks about a quilt that's been in a family for years and yet helped slaves escape.

From the Mixed-up Files / comments by Lilyan H.
Claudia and Jamie Kincaid run away. They hid in the Metropolitan Museum of Art and sleep on a big bed. They discover Angel and solve the mystery of who made it. But they need to have proof so they go to Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. They then find out Michelangelo did make Angel and they go home.
I think it got it's name because Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler has a bunch of files.
