Adam of the Road by Elizabeth Janet Gray

1943 Newbery Medal

Adam, who lives at St. Allgon's Abbey, wishes his father, a minstrel, would take him away from there and teach him how to be a minstrel. Surprisingly, he does come and they have an adventure on the road with Nick, Adam's dog, getting stolen, and Adam's father disappearing but soon they're back together again.

I think it was given this title because Adam is on the road a lot and because he's a minstrel and that's what minstrel's do.

This book is full of poems. It's better when you read it with two people. It's all about spring and spring noises.

I think it is titled "Joyful Noise" because the poems are about spring noises and spring is a joyful time.
